Figures for 2017

This report examines the volume and value of tourism and the impact of visitor expenditure on the local economy in 2017.

The results are derived using the Cambridge Economic Impact Model under licence by Destination Research Ltd based on the latest data from national tourism surveys and regionally/locally based data. CONTEXTUAL ANALYSIS The three key surveys used to measure volume and expenditure from tourism trips are the GB Tourism Survey (for domestic overnight trips), the International Passenger Survey (IPS) for visits from overseas, and the BG Day Visitor Survey (GBDVS), which measures tourism day visits.

In addition, data from accommodation occupancy and visitors to visitor attractions have been used to estimate year-on-year changes in the volume and value of tourism related visits to the area.
