Wedding venue couple turn their events skills to the movies

Fri 14 Aug 20

In a first for Fife, a Drive-In Cinema is opening on Friday 28th August for a weekend of popular movies and great in-car catering in the stunning location of Pratis Barns, near Leven.

The Pictures @ Pratis event will host a line-up of classic family and blockbuster films to choose from, as well as tasty in-car dining menu including woodfired pizzas from Fallones and a selection of favourites prepared by event host and professional chef, Patrick Gilmour. Coffee and cakes will also be provided by Land Rover converted, Defender Blender. Entry tickets will include a £10 money off voucher for purchase of food and drink at the event.

Owners of Pratis Barns, Patrick and Nicola Gilmour, are no strangers to hosting busy, lively events as they normally run a highly successful weddings business. However, Covid has meant that wedding bookings have been postponed or rescheduled until next year.

Patrick explained how the idea to introduce the Drive-In Cinema came about.

“We have a large, beautiful space here at Pratis Barns and were looking for a fun and sociable idea to bring people together in a safe way. The drive-in cinema experience is a great opportunity for a family outing, a different kind of girls’ night out, or a classic date night. It certainly isn’t a standard cinema trip!

“Who doesn’t love a great movie, good company and delicious food at the weekend?

“In addition to arranging all the projection and sound equipment, we have planned strict hygiene precautions very carefully to allow everyone to come along and enjoy the show safely.”

The outdoor cinema will feature a 10m x 5m LED screen which is the latest in technology and ensures great viewing in both day and night light. The soundtrack will be played through the cars’ FM stereo system.

Starting at 5pm on Friday the Drive-In Cinema opens with the Pixar classic Up, followed by Dirty Dancing at 9pm. Saturday’s bill will feature Despicable Me at 12noon, The Greatest Showman at 4pm and Rocketman at 9pm. Sunday will round off the weekend’s event with Toy Story at 12 noon, Grease at 4pm and the Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga version of the hit A Star is Born at 9pm.

Tickets are on sale now priced £35 per car (including booking fee) from https://pratisbarns.com/driveincinema/ and car parking spaces will be allocated on a first-come, first served basis. Vehicles accommodating up to seven passengers can attend.
