Tourism St Andrews (the St Andrews Local Tourism Association) has this week launched a social media campaign to celebrate the St Andrews Day celebrations during November.
After a successful summer season promoting the St Andrews Beach Wheelchairs project, the group’s early winter campaign supports the global celebration of St Andrews Day and the local activities planned during the month of November which will have a truly Scottish theme.
The tourism team have issued a “call to action” for as many people as possible, local residents and tourists, who either have or are prepared to take a photograph of themselves in a kilt in St Andrews or the surrounding area. The group is requesting that the photographs are then shared on social media channels using the #tags of “#ProundinMyKilt in #StAndrews” and also using the tag #GetYerKiltOn which is the social media campaign being run throughout Fife by the Fife Tourism Partnership.
Debbie MacCallum (a founder of The Hamish Foundation and current Chair of Tourism St Andrews) said: “We have been active on social media channels during this year and last and we were keen to continue activity into the winter season and celebrate St Andrews day during the month of November given the celebrations that we have in the town over that period. We were keen to do something that enabled both locals and people who had visited us over the years to celebrate online and what better option than to tie in with the Fife Tourism Partnership initiative and ask people to share any photographs of themselves in a kilt - or perhaps just wearing something tartan - taken in our beautiful town.
“St Andrews has seen a busy summer season with cruise ship passengers from overseas visiting, and we are always keen to support winter season activities as well and #ProudinMyKilt is a great way to do this”.
