A popular eatery in Fife that is owned and run by a MasterChef: The Professionals winner has been named Scotland's Restaurant of the Year. The Newport Restaurant in Newport-on-Tay received the prestigious prize at the AA Hospitality Awards in a glittering ceremony at Grosvenor House in London. It was among several notable Scottish winners including the Pot Still in Glasgow, which was named Scotland’s pub of the year,  and the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews, which was crowned Scotland’s hotel of the year.

He said: “This is a massive achievement for myself, my wife and our team. It is everything we could have hoped for and really confirmed for us that everyone’s hard work and determination in such a young business is paying off. “A huge thank you to not only our amazing team, but also our customers for getting us to this stage with their continued support.”

An AA spokesperson added: “There’s not much better publicity than winning MasterChef: The Professionals, so 2014 winner Jamie Scott got off to a flyer when he opened his own restaurant.

“Cheerful and enthusiastic service and a breezy contemporary decor make for a relaxed dining experience, while pin-sharp contemporary cooking from Scott and his team make it a hot ticket.

“Choose between the small plates or go for a pre-ordained tasting menu and expect the likes of a glorious veggie number with violet artichoke, goats’ curd and pickled carrots.”
