Social media is a "must" for any business or organisation these days. It gets your message out there quickly - whether that be news, events or promotions - and the technology enables you to straddle timelines and geographies. We've a string focus on social media use within Fife Tourism Partnership and one key strategy for us over the next 12 months is the golf tourism sector – with all the fantastic courses in the region that golfers can enjoy combined with the landscape and activities that vistors can enjoy in the region, we have a unique proposition in the tourism market.
We therefore have an agreed social media plan in place with Fife Golf Partnership to cover the months from the British Open at Hoylake just past which we attended to promote ourselves right up to and including The Open 2015 taking place in St Andrews.
Our plan embraces the promotion of golf tourism in Fife across a number of themes and topics. Between our golf and tourism associated media channels alone, we have a following of circa 12,000 Followers! That's a potential of 12,000 people to share your news with spread across Fife, Scotland, the UK and globally. The planned activity during Hoylake proved that the right messages were being communicated with increased followers to the channels and significant retweet status.
Our activities are now planned around September and October and anchoring from a Fife Golf perspective around attracting people to visit Fife (rather than other regions) during a Ryder Cup trip and also promoting the Fife activities, events and promotions during the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews. The social media content will not only include pure golf content – it can include subject matter such as your award winning status as a restaurant, a local festival taking place during September or October, the fact that you have a promotion on or accommodation available etc. Indeed, the message we want to shout is "If you're here in Scotland in September or October, come visit Fife – we've got great #FifeGolf but there is so much else for you to see and do here that you just won't get elsewhere in Scotland"!
So, please email your news/event/promotions content to us on [email protected] and remember to tag us on Twitter with @VisitFifeGolf @LoveFife @FifeTourism
